 upcoming cleanups

We are pausing cleanups in order to stay safe and healthy during the pandemic. We hope to be able to host cleanups soon! Check back for updates.

about our cleanups

Cleanups are the heart of Plastic Lakes Project. All PLP cleanups use datasheets to track the number of items collected, total weight, and types of litter found. These are completed by volunteers during cleanups and then compiled by PLP. Final results are also posted to Alliance for the Great Lakes through their Adopt-a-Beach program. PLP hopes to use the data to support changes, whether that be installing cigarette butt receptacles, recycling receptacles, or other methods to reduce pollution from entering our waterways. Prevention is key!

Since 2018, Plastic Lakes Project has collected 28,409 pieces of debris weighing 2,079 pounds. Over 80% of this debris is plastic or has a plastic component. Thank you to the volunteers who made these cleanups possible!
